Travel to Porto and Régua

Porto is served by the Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport (OPO), which is located about 11 km (7 miles) north of the city centre. The airport is used by many of the major regular airlines, as well as low cost airlines. Additional information about the Porto airport can be found in the website.

There are both direct US - Oporto and Canada (Toronto) - Oporto flight connections, but also via Azores (Ponta Delgada).

In case you arrive through Lisbon Airport (which is more than 300 km from Porto), you can either get a 45 min connection flight to Porto with TAP Portugal (there is one flight every hour) or the low-cost Ryanair, or you can catch a fast train to Porto (train AP) that departs every 1-2 hours and takes about 2 h 45 min .

To reach the train station, just take the metro from Lisbon airport to the train station Lisboa-Oriente. The train to Porto stops at Porto-Campanhã train station.

The distance between the Porto Airport and Hotel Régua Douro is approximately 100 km, and by car it takes about 1h20min.

The Douro Cruises are one of the best ways to enjoy the region. Every day several boats sail on the Douro with tourists of all nationalities.

In this route we navigate the Douro upstream from Porto to Peso da Régua located in the heart of the Douro Wine Region. It will be a journey of 7 hours, which will take us through two dams: Crestuma-Lever and Carrapatelo.

Along the way you can see the terraced vineyards on the banks of the river, farms and beautiful scenery as the river meanders through the middle of the increasingly steep slopes.

The terminal of several operators are located across the river from the city of Porto in the town of Vila Nova da Gaia where the Port Wine Cellars are located. You can get there by car, taxi or bus. The area is called the 'Cais' (Quays) and there is no metro station close by. You can see Bus details at www.stcp.pt

For further information on boat trips on river Douro, such as the trip from Porto to Régua, see Douro Azul website (sorry, no english version available). The trip costs €70/person (including return by train on the same day) during the week and €80 on weekends, including breakfast and lunch. There are three options: starting at 8:00 am, 8:45 am and 9:00 am. Please, contact Ms. Lurdes Catalino for an update and booking. She can also check the possibility of having the train ticket at a later day.
