Surrogate Models in Process Systems  Engineering

Rafael Amoedo is a chemical engineer from IST (ULisbon) and holds a PhD in Energy from EPFL. He has been developing decision-making methodologies in the field of waste-to-value, based on simulation and optimization tools.

The workshop is divided into theoretical (30 min) and practical (1h) parts. The theory will delve into the concept and usefulness of surrogate models as a way to replace expensive simulation software, with an overview of the most used approaches in PSE. In the second part, the student will implement some basic models, assess trade-offs and metrics that allow comparison and choice between alternative surrogate methods.
