In this 4th Talk Daniel Armanios, Professor in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, and Angelo Ramalho, CEO of Efacec, will discuss the repercussions of the flow of technology and information to more classic organisations and the influence on their development.

Daniel Armanios is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University as well as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership at Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman College. Daniel’s research lies at the intersection of institutions, engineering, and public policy & entrepreneurship. More specifically, he focuses on the institutional processes that influence how scientific infrastructure is built and subsequently used to support entrepreneurship and innovation. Example projects include how national and local government interaction affects high-tech innovation in China and in the United States, and how the Arab Spring affected how state banks fund entrepreneurship in Egypt and Tunisia. Daniel holds Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.) and Political Science (Economics Minor) (B.A), Master’s degrees from the University of Oxford in Management Research (MSc) and Water Science, Policy and Management (MSc), and a PhD from Stanford University in Management Science & Engineering.
Ângelo Ramalho is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Efacec.With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto, Ângelo Ramalho also attended the Top Management Program for Companies at AESE Business School. With over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, he has led companies such as Shell Portugal, Gás de Portugal, Galp Energia and Alstom. In November 2015, he takes over the position as CEO of Efacec. In 2020 his term is renewed, and he is also appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
