The Prime Talks, hosted by FEUP as part of its FEUP Prime programme, are a moment of sharing experience on topics relevant to companies and which aim to disseminate a culture of innovation and knowledge produced by FEUP Partner companies in collaboration with the Faculty.

In the 6th Webinar Harish Viswanathan (Nokia-Bell Lans) and Pedro Santos (Vodafone) will discuss the future of mobile communications beyond 2030 and the envisioned innovations and impact on business and society. The discussion will cover the contributions of 5G, the challenges that remain open and the key technologies that are emerging to enable future generations of mobile communications.

Harish Viswanathan 

is Head of Radio Systems Research Group in Nokia Bell Labs. He received the B. Tech. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Electrical Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Since joining Bell Labs in October 1997, he has worked extensively on wireless research ranging from physical layer to network architecture and protocols including multiple antenna technology for cellular wireless networks, multi-hop relays, network optimization, network architecture, and IoT communications. He has published extensively with over 100 publications. From 2007 to 2015, Harish was in the Corp CTO organization, where as a CTO Partner he advised the Corporate CTO on Technology Strategy through in-depth analysis of emerging technology and market needs. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Bell Labs Fellow.

Pedro Santos
He is Head of Network Deployment and 5G Program Director at Vodafone Portugal and holds a degree in Electrical and Computing Engineering with specialization in Telecommunications, by Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.
With more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and networking industry, he joined Vodafone Portugal in 1998 and has worked in several roles within areas of QoS and Radio Design. Until the end of 2019, Pedro Santos was Head of Radio in Vodafone Portugal with the responsibility to plan, design and optimize all the 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, NB-IoT Access Networks.
Currently, he is the Head of Network Deployment with the responsibility of the Mobile Access NW, Transport NW, Fixed NW and Enterprise NW Solutions. Since 2018 he is also Head of the 5G Program and the 5G Hub in Vodafone Portugal, whose main driver is to explore the 5G network capabilities in order to implement new and innovative use cases together with the Academia, Start-ups and Industry partners.
