Portuguese stereographers / publishers - João Francisco Camacho

João Francisco Camacho (1833-1898) started his photographic studio in the island of Madeira in 1863, and remained there until 1879, when he decided to move to Lisbon [Sena 1998, p. 52 and p. 87]. The address of his photographic studio in Funchal (Madeira) may be found on the backside of one of his CDV's, illustrated on the right: "Photographia Camacho - Funchal - Rua de S. Francisco, 21 - 22, Madeira".
It is interesting to refer that one of Camacho's stereoviews (from 1864), showing the bay of Funchal, is presented in [Zeller 2000, p. 85] as "one of the finest naval views of the Civil War in existence." (because of several US war ships that may be seen in the image).

White flat card mount with early square-corner images. A small stamp printed vertically on the left says "João F. Camacho - Madeira" (illustrated above on the left).
