How to install Linux

Create a PEN

    1. 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image ("ubuntu-18.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso", 1.9 GB)
  1. Launch "Startup Disk Creator"
    1. Select ISO and USB
    2. Confirm USB device

Make a backup

  • Make sure you have a recent backup of your data

Change the BIOS

You may need to go to the BIOS (<F2>)

  • Boot: USB UEFI, Windows
  • Secure boot: disabled
  • Fast boot: disabled
  • Legacy options (ROM, etc): enabled
  • SATA on AHCI (NOT SATA on RAID)1)
  • Enable Intel Virtualisation Technology2)

In case you run Windows

  • Disable "Fast boot"

Install Ubuntu

Use Ubuntu

VPN

Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)

I got it working by selecting "Store the password for all users" (but do not ask me why)
