Special Sessions/Workshops/Tutorials Submission Instructions
Besides regular sessions in IEEE ITS Conferences, special sessions, workshops and tutorials are also an important part of the technical program, promoting the appropriate environment to foster discussion and collaboration on specific topics of interest. IEEE ITSC 2016 encourages and invites the community to contribute with proposals of Special Sessions, and half- or full-day Workshops and Tutorials to integrate the technical program of the conference.
Proposals will be evaluated on a rolling basis according to significance and relevance to ITSC 2016’s technical program. Prospective organizers can find additional information and guidelines below.
Special Sessions
The purpose of Special Sessions within ITSC 2016 is to provide a forum for focused discussion on new topics, consolidated research trends, or innovative applications of established approaches in fields of interest to the conference. A special session typically consists of four to six papers, which for instance address a particular theme or report on work carried in some particular international project, promoting an appropriate environment for dissemination of final results.
Special session papers will undergo the same intense review process as do regular conference papers and submission is not a guarantee for acceptance. In case less than four papers submitted to a special session are finally accepted after review, the program chair and the special session co-chairs reserve the right to re-assign these accepted papers into regular sessions of the conference technical program. Accepted manuscripts of special sessions will be included in the conference proceedings as conference papers, and will be indexed in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library accordingly. Publication of accepted special session papers implies that at least one of the co-authors attends the conference to present the work orally. Special Session papers should be submitted through PaperPlaza, following guidelines in the “Paper Submission Instructions” page.
Prospective Special Session organizers should include the following information in their proposals:
- Title of the special session
- Aim and Scope (up to 300 words), stating importance and novelty, and describing technical issues the special session will address
- List of specific topics of interest (up to 10 topics)
- A history of the special session, if not being offered for the first time
- Expected number of papers submitted for consideration and, if available, list of prospective authors and contributions
- Dissemination plan (upon approval, organizers are encourage to disseminate CFPs if the special session is opened to the community and is not organized within the scope of a specific project)
- Contact details (institutional address, phone, e-mail) and a short bio of organizers

Workshops
Workshops aim to foster active discussion on issues related to specific fields, emphasizing on the interaction between presenter and audience. Typical structure of a workshop will include a number of paper presentations and/or invited talks (without paper submission). If time allows, a final panel/roundtable is sometimes useful to wrap up the discussion from a more systematic perspective.
ITSC 2016 Workshops invite and welcome contributions reporting on original research ideas, work in progress and preliminary results of experiments and case studies in different fields of interest to the conference. Accepted manuscripts will be included in the conference proceedings as workshop papers, and will be indexed in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Publication of accepted workshop papers implies that at least one of the co-authors attends the workshop to present the work orally. Title and abstract of invited talks, without paper submission, will be published in the main conference technical program. Workshop papers should be submitted through PaperPlaza, following guidelines in the “Paper Submission Instructions” page.
Prospective workshop organizers should include the following information in their proposals:
- Title of the workshop
- Expected length of the workshop (half-day or full-day)
- Aim and Scope (up to 300 words), describing technical issues the workshop will address
- List of specific topics of interest (up to 10 topics)
- A history of the workshop, if not being offered for the first time
- Planned invited speakers (if any)
- Expected number of papers submitted for consideration
- Dissemination plan (upon approval, organizers are encourage to disseminate CFPs and optionally produce a workshop webpage)
- Contact details (institutional address, phone, e-mail) and a short bio of organizers

Tutorials
Tutorials at IEEE ITS Conferences provide attendees with the opportunity to gain knowledge and insights into any of the areas related to the topics of the conference. ITSC 2016 invites half-day or full-day tutorial proposals, which should provide clear and focused teaching material covering hot and emerging topics within the scope of theoretical and applied subjects and issues of Intelligent Transportation Systems and related areas. Tutorial instructors will be listed in the Featured Speakers of ITSC 2016.
Prospective tutorial organizers should include the following information in their proposals:
- Tutorial title
- Aim and Scope (up to 300 words), describing goals and outcomes of the tutorial
- Outline of topics and respective expected duration (in minutes)
- Intended length (half- or full-day)
- Intended audience and assumed background knowledge
- If any, personal computer and software requirements for attendees
- Contact details (institutional address, phone, e-mail) and a short bio of organizers
- If the tutorial has been given previously, please indicate where and how it will be modified to meet topics of interest to ITSC 2016
