Technical Visits
On Monday, October 31, 2016, we are organizing two pre-conference technical visits for IEEE ITSC2016 participants. Due to operational reasons, the tour has limited capacity and seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. To maximize the number of participants, priority will be given to the participants’ preferred technical visit in case of limited seating. Participation on both technical visits is allowed if free seats are available. Pre-registration is mandatory (deadline: October 27). Transportation to and from the Windsor Oceânico Hotel and the two sites will be provided by IEEE ITSC2016.

Since December 31, 2010, the Rio Operations Center (COR), has been integrating 30 different entities monitoring the city 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7). It is located at the renovated expanded city centre, “Cidade Nova”. COR was designed to integrate all stages of any crisis management – planning, monitoring and action – giving immediate response to events, such as, heavy rains, landslides and traffic accidents. In addition, COR gives “real-time” information of all public transport operators and municipal bodies to local newspapers and TVs. COR monitors 560 cameras installed throughout the city, helping to control traffic and giving information to security entities, when it is necessary. All data is interconnected for viewing, monitoring and analysis in the Control Room which has an 80 square meter screen controlled by a team of 400 professional city officers from all sorts of Municipal Secretaries working on three shifts monitoring the city. In the Crisis Room, also equipped with screens and video conferencing facilities, authorities can communicate directly with the City Hall and the Civil Defense headquarters. The whole process was developed to allow decision makers to solve problems in real-time. In the case of an event, COR can quickly activate the appropriate body(ies) to deal with the situation.
