Maria Oliveira is Business Director at UPTEC. With more than 15 years’ experience working in technology transfer, entrepreneurship and innovation management, Maria worked in several capacities in Portugal and abroad, namely in innovation consultancy, heading of U.Porto Innovation, invited fellow of Boston University, Executive Director of UTEN, a component of the UT Austin | Portugal Program. She is regularly invited as an external expert to evaluate proof of concept proposals for the European Commission and to participate in conferences and seminars. Maria graduated in Engineering (UTAD), with a M.Sc. in Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship (U.PORTO), an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the MIT Sloan School of Management and MBA from Porto Business School.
The “Digital Media in Health Communication and Literacy” course is a fully online programme intended on bringing together participants with very different perspectives, and abilities, to collaboratively create digital media projects capable of communicating complex concepts in scientific research.

Developed to be an intensive fully online 8-week course, students are invited to engage in a cooperative setting where they are guided through the process of exploring many different methodologies, with a focus on creating health communication material for both linear and experiential formats.

Charlie N. Müller is the founder and managing director of Futury. The start-up and innovation platform offers unique programs in which students and graduates develop and incubate sustainable, innovative and future-oriented solutions together with companies. Charlie's central interest is to combine innovation and sustainability together with customer-centricity to generate high user adoption. Before founding Futury, he worked in various management consultancies, including Roland Berger and Accenture. Charlie studied business administration and a minor in law in Munich, Oestrich-Winkel, Heidelberg and San Diego.
Nádia Leal Cruz is the Communication and Marketing Manager of the Portuguese branch of Natixis, one of the reference corporate and investment banks in France. She has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences, a Master's degree in International Business and a postgraduate degree in Digital Marketing.

Nuno España is head of Marketing & Customer Management for Lusíadas Saúde – a Portuguese private healthcare group integrated in UnitedHealth Group. With 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry and strategy consulting, Nuno has broad experience in areas such as Strategic Planning, Innovation, Customer Experience, Marketing and Communications. Nuno worked for companies such José de Mello Saúde, noLimits Consulting and Grupo Português de Saúde.
Joana Magalhães is an Associate Researcher in the Rheumatology Research Group, from
INIBIC-CICA (Spain). In parallel with her scientific career, she has been involved in patient
involvement actions and coordinating STEAM-for-health public engagement strategies
through media, from a gender perspective.

Rita Sá Machado is a medical doctor and a specialist in public health. Enthusiastic and passionate for policy and development areas, Rita currently works at the Mission of Portugal to the UN Office in Geneva, following the 2021 Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU. Rita holds a MSc Public Health from LSHTM and a PG in Health Management. She had several managerial roles in the field, and is a consultant for WHO since 2015, as well as an invited lecturer at ISPUP.

Sándor Huszár is co-founder and CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) at Smart Babee Technologies. The aim of the start-up is to revolutionize baby nursing and monitoring with integrated smart devices. In parallel, Sándor works at the University of Szeged as a lecturer assistant.
With an MA in Science Journalism, Débora sees herself as a bridge between health and the public. After 10 years living in multiple European countries she became a Lisbon-based Health Communications Consultant, working for the European Public Health Association and University of New South Wales among others. Following a mind-blowing training, she is now also a WHO-certified Infodemic Manager.
Holds a PhD in Business Sciences from U.Porto & a degree in Mathematics from the University Portucalense Infante D. Henrique. He is Assistant Professor at the FEP & Director and Professor of the Post-Graduate course in Business Intelligence & Analytics at PBS, Vice President of International Association for Statistical Education and Deputy-Director of the International Statistical Literacy Project, where he has performed international functions in the field of the promotion of statistical literacy.
Marie Hohensee is a Communication Expert with a background in medicine and Public Health (M.Sc). As a certified health coach and yoga teacher she is passionate about prevention and holistic health. Currently holding the position as Medical Expert at alley Marie is using her skills to develop, disseminate and implement new ideas and innovative solutions for health challenges.

Ana Carrilho was awarded an honorable mention at the Health Journalism Prize promoted by Apifarma and Journalists Club for her work about Alzheimer’s disease. She is an informal caregiver for her father, with cancer, and before, for her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's.
Paulo Gonçalves has a degree in Math and Computer Science. He has more than 30 years of experience in areas related with software development, project management, business development. For the last 5 years, part of a Global Account team, working across 15 countries. Paulo Gonçalves is representing the Portuguese Society of Multiple Sclerosis and he is going to talk about patient advocacy.
He is a pragmatic software engineer, early adopter of Agile, trainer on agile methods, software design, and agile project management in academia & industry. He is Associate Professor at U.Porto, CSIG Centre Coordinator at INESCTEC, founder of Agile Portugal Conferences, co-author of the book A Scrum Book: The Spirit of the Game, by Jeff Sutherland, James O. Coplien and The Scrum Patterns Group, and creator of Coding for Social Impact Labs (FEUP CSI Labs).
When taking care of her mother during their breast cancer experience, Nadine Franziska König realized that many excellent support organizations exist for patients themselves, but not for families and friends. Hence, Nadine Franziska König and Dr. Sarah Mahr decided to found the WE CARE Initiative: A virtual support platform for relatives and friends of breast cancer patients.
António Fernando Coelho
is Associate Professor at the Informatics Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, with more than 20 years of experience in teaching and research in the areas of Computer Graphics, Digital Games and Gamification and Geospatial Systems.
He is the Director of the Doctoral Programme in Digital Media,
a transdisciplinary PhD programme focused in the Digital Transformation scientific challenges. And he is also the coordinator of
the Computer Graphics and Virtual Environments area of the research institute INESC TEC.
Tiago Gama Rocha is a hackathon specialist, creative strategist, and collaboration
evangelist. He strives to inspire future generations as a lecturer at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto and Instituto
Superior da Maia. His Ph.D. in Digital Media by the UTAustin|Portugal Program strengthened his role as an interdisciplinary researcher
, having since co-founded several innovative collaborative projects, such as EMERGENCE Hackathon, Openfield Creative Lab

Hernâni Zão Oliveira has a double degree in
Biology and Journalism from the University of Porto. He has two master’s degrees completed at the same university: one in Molecular
Oncology, and the other one in Health Education. Oliveira coordinated the Creative Laboratory for Health Literacy at the University
of Porto, as part of his Ph.D in Digital Media by the UTAustin | Portugal Program. Since 2019, he is the founder of the
startup BRIGHT , a project aimed at the development of innovative products in the area of
citizen empowerment.
Abel Neto is a Game Designer and Researcher specializing in asymmetric games.
His diversity of interests makes him a jack of all trades with a diverse skill set that he utilizes to craft player and
user experiences. His cognitive flexibility and creativity allows him to anticipate potential problems and devise solutions
for them. He is currently a PhD student at the Doctoral Program in Digital Media at the Faculty of Engineering of the University
of Porto.
The interuniversity Alliance EUGLOH – European University for Global Health, a pilot initiative funded by the European
Commission within the Erasmus+ Program, is formed by 5 European Universities: University of Porto (Portugal), University
of Lund (Sweden), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany), University of Szeged (Hungary) and Université Paris-Saclay (France).
This Alliance aims to stimulate cooperation in a variety of areas linked to Global Health (digital health, public
health and well-being, environmental protection and food safety).

1. Does the programmme have registration costs or other fees?
The programme has no associated costs.
2. Will the course have an exclusively online format?
Given the current constraints, the course was designed to be 100% online.
3. Who can attend the course?
Students from the 2nd and 3rd study cycles of the EUGLOH Alliance can attend. EUGLOH is formed by University of Porto, University of Lund, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Szeged and Université Paris-Saclay.
4. What are the criteria for selecting candidates?
The balance between the admissible scientific areas will be considered, as well as the gender balance, and priority will be given to students with special educational needs.
Additionally, candidates will be ranked using the following criteria (scores from 0 to 20):
a) Curriculum and CV/portfolio analysis;
b) Motivation to participate in the activity;
c) English level (assessed by the motivation component of the application).
As a tiebreaker: Interview by videoconference to assess the motivation, language level, and the skills that the candidate reveals.
5. How long does it take to complete the course?
The course lasts 8 weeks, equivalent to 81 hours. Of these, 32 hours will be of synchronous work.
6. Is there a limit on absences from the program?
Students must justify each absence. Students must participate in, at least, 75% of the
synchronous sessions in order to be eligible for the 3 ECTS credits.
7. Do I need a team to join the course?
Applicants apply individually. Once selected, the organization will create multidisciplinary work teams for the 8 weeks of the course.
8. What communication tools are going to be used during the programme?
During this course, participants will mainly be using Discord and Microsoft Teams. Discord will be the platform you use to communicate, receive important announcements, ask for help, and share files with your teammates, allowing you to work asynchronously.
Microsoft Teams will be used for every synchronous session. All invites will be shared on Discord.
9. Who owns my project & IP?
The team that develops the project is the owner of the project and IP. We encourage the use of open source tools whenever possible,
