The Instituto da Construção (IC) is a private, scientific and technical non-profit association, which serves as a knowledge interface between the scientific community and industry, providing applied research, testing, consulting and training services in the various fields of Civil Engineering.
The IC’s vocation is complementary to other R&D activities at the Department of Civil Engineering of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (FEUP), not overlapping either the more fundamental research activities developed at the University and the Department, or activities carried out by service providers in the market.

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) undertakes activities in the realms of education, research, and innovation at international level. Accordingly, the results of these activities lead to the creation and transmission of knowledge, training of competent and ethical professionals, and future leaders in the area of engineering and similar areas, and also the promotion of wellbeing of our global society.
FEUP is a globally renowned institution in a variety of areas of Engineering, for students, technicians, researchers and managers, and for innumerable national and international organisations. This is due to the persistent work of its Community and its various partners over many years, overcoming obstacles of various sorts, and always seizing the opportunity to develop.

The Research Unit Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction (CONSTRUCT) was created in 2015, stemming from the merging of two previous research units both settled at the Department of Civil Engineering of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
CONSTRUCT includes 6 research groups in the areas of Structures, Geotechnics and Construction, with a total of 51 PhD integrated members (in 2018-2022), collaborating in research activities of 6 thematic lines, using laboratories facilities, corresponding to the largest and best equipped laboratorial infrastructure available in Civil Engineering Departments of Portuguese Universities.

The Universidade Estadual Vale do Acaraú (UVA), with a an administrative structure formed by six Teaching Centres (Philosophy; Language and Education; Agricultural and Biological Sciences; Exacts Sciences and Technology; Health Sciences; Applied Social Sciences; Human Sciences), has 26 undergraduate courses, and six master’s degrees, being three academic master’s degrees (Philosophy, Geography and Zootechnics), three professional master’s degrees (Family Health, Teaching Physics and Sociology) and a professional doctorate in Family Health. The UVA infrastructure is distributed in four campi – Betânia, Junco, Derby and CIDAO – all located in Sobral, which serve approximately 10 thousand students from Sobral and other 54 municipalities in the Northern Region of Ceará. Being a pioneer in the interiorization of Higher Education in Ceará, UVA made possible the attraction and installation of other Higher Education Institutions in Sobral. In 2020, UVA celebrates 52 years of activities and brings in your history the mark of regional social development, by contributing to the academic formation and as a pole of technological development and an important centre of research and innovation.
